Short and Impactful Duas to Deal with Depression, Stress and Sadness

Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel the way you think and how you act. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.

If you want to live a life without depression, stress, and sadness then take time to make “Astaghfar” in excess so that Allah Almighty forgive you for your sins. Removing the darkness of Depression and sadness, distresses and grief is a critical matter to which the religion Islam gives serious attention. There are many authentic Duas from Hadith, which can help us to remove Depression, Stress, Sadness, and Worries through Islamic way.

The greatest darkness is disbelief in Allah and to associate partners with Him. Whoever associates partners with Allah (SWT) will always remain in darkness and thus feel Depression and Stress. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “Allah is the Protector of those who have faith He will lead them from the depths of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are the devils: from light, they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They will be companions of the fire, to dwell therein (forever).” (Quran, 2:257)

Below mentioned are some Duas from the Quran and the authentic Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) which acts as remedies to help us in our daily life routine and remove depression, stress, and sadness.

Holy Prophet (PBUH) used to recite this Dua: “O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye (i.e. a moment). Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You.” (Abu Dawud)

Ibn ‘Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to say when He (PBUH) felt distressed:

لا إلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظـيمُ الْحَلِـيمْ، لا إلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ العَـرْشِ العَظِيـمِ، لا إلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَـوّاتِ ورّبُّ الأَرْضِ ورَبُّ العَرْشِ الكَـريم

“There is no god except Allah, the All-Mighty, the Forbearing; there is no god except Allah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne; there is no god except Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the noble Throne.” (Bukhari)

This Dua is useful for receiving patience during hardships in our affairs and acknowledging our mistakes while seeking Allah’s protection.

“There is no deity but You. Glory be to You! Verily, I have been among the wrongdoers.” (Quran 21:87)

Abdullah ibn Masood (RA) narrated that whenever Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to be afflicted with any concern or stressful situations He (PBUH) would recite this supplication.

“O Living and Eternal Maintainer! By Your mercy, I seek help!” (Tirmidhi)

This Dua relieves hardships, afflictions, protects from enemies, as well as protects from wrong and evil judgments.

“Oh Allah, I seek refuge in you from the difficulties of hardships. And the acquisition of wretchedness, and ill-fated, and the enemy’s malicious rejoicing for my suffering.” (Bukhari)

Recitation of this Dua helps us to find an easy solution to deal with sorrow and debts.

“O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.” (Bukhari)

The above mentioned were some of the Duas from the Sunnah and Quran I hope these Duas help us in times of distress. May Allah Almighty helps us to deal with depression and stress with these Islamic Duas. Ameen!
